Letters to the Editor — May 19, 2023

The Issue: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s claim that they were chased by paparazzi for two hours.

Regarding the two-hour car chase endured by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, it is crucial to remember that Princess Diana was not killed by overly aggressive paparazzi, but by her careless and possibly inebriated driver who must have confused cameras with firearms (“Duke (and Duchess) of Hazard,” May 18).

Since the ex-royals’ behavior has been far from camera-shy over the years, their dramatic claims are ludicrous.

The only ones who deserve blame are Harry and Meghan.

Not only did they bungle another obvious publicity stunt, but now the NYPD is investigating, as if that manpower and those resources couldn’t be better employed keeping the public safe from real threats and actual crime.

John Sheridan

It disturbs me to comprehend that the paparazzi haven’t learned from the mistakes of the past. I am annoyed.

This week’s incident brought back memories of the past. But this time Harry and Meghan didn’t succumb to a tragic recurrence of Princess Diana’s fate.

That group of overly ambitious photographers should be prosecuted.

Sorry, but to me this so-called “chase” smacks of being a publicity stunt deliberately staged to keep the two in the news here, while the royals stoically carry on across the pond.

It’s supposed to, perhaps, conjure up memories in our minds of how his mother tragically died.

Neither individual is anywhere near as interesting or compelling a figure as Diana was, so I’m simply not buying the latest drama.

For two people who allegedly desire their privacy, they sure go out of their way to be seen and documented in public as often as possible. There have been non-stop “Sussexes out and about” stories since he fled the coronation.

I’ve just read your article about Meghan and Harry’s “near-catastrophic” car chase. This would never have happened had they taken the subway.

The Issue: Protesters at CUNY School of Law who heckled Mayor Adams during a speech last week.

What a disgrace (“Grads push ‘back’ vs. Adams at CUNY,” May 13).

This shows prejudice and the complete absence of critical thinking.

It’s too bad Mayor Adams tried to make nice with these fools by confirming that he, too, has protested.

One self-righteous student states that the so-called “discipline, principles and commitment” of college are superior to law enforcement.

Every day the police make a commitment to put their lives on the line and make split-second decisions. As for discipline, these people were not even capable of sitting down and respecting their mayor. This was a graduation, not a protest.

Turning your back on your commencement speaker tells me you have very questionable principles.

Catherine Adago

Manhattan

Is this the quality of the students colleges are sending out into the world? God help us.

How sad for some of the parents in the audience to witness their children’s rude and disrespectful behavior toward Mayor Adams. Especially the parents who sacrificed to give their children this education.

Shame on the students and shame on the institutions that allow this behavior with no consequences.

P. Fletcher

Massapequa
