Lacy played Robert Berchtold, the protagonist. The plot, set in 1974, follows his anti-social activities as he abducts Jan Broberg, who was 12 years old, becoming a serial kidnapper. Later, in 1976, two years after she was returned to her family, he kidnapped her again.
