Mel’s Decision, Wildfire & Mud Throwing (VIDEO)

It wouldn’t be a season of Virgin River without quite a bit of drama (and danger), would it?

Netflix has released the trailer for Season 5 Part 1 (consisting of the first 10 episodes), dropping on Thursday, September 7, and the town’s residents are going to have their hands full, both individually and as a whole: There’s a wildfire!

Season 5 “features surprising new relationships, a shocking break-up, a difficult court trial, a heartbreaking goodbye, and a wildfire that threatens the town, bringing some people of Virgin River together while tearing others apart,” Netflix teases.

“Issues of motherhood push Mel [Alexandra Breckenridge] to make a big decision about her future at the clinic while her pregnancy unexpectedly sparks an emotional connection to her past. To further prove himself to Mel, Jack [Martin Henderson] squares off with some long-overdue confrontations — with his own demons, and of course, Charmaine [Lauren Hammersley]. And as Doc [Tim Matheson] and Hope’s [Annette O’Toole] respective impairments throw their identities into question, the doctor and the mayor must find solace in their community, in their young new family, and in each other.”

The trailer begins with a sweet moment between Mel and Jack. “You’re going to be a fantastic father,” she tells him. “You might even be better than me at it.” But he knows she doesn’t mean that, and he’s right. “Obviously not,” she says. Speaking of her pregnancy, Mel cites he high-risk nature of it and her family as things she’s prioritizing over her job, though Doc doesn’t want her to leave the clinic. He does have help, though, with Cameron (Mark Ghanimé).

The trailer also teases potential love for Preacher (Colin Lawrence), some mud throwing, a wildfire, and much more. Watch it above.

In addition to Breckenridge, Henderson, Matheson, O’Toole, Lawrence, and Ghanimé, series regulars in Virgin River Season 5 are Benjamin Hollingsworth, Zibby Allen, Sarah Dugdale, Marco Grazzini, Kai Bradbury, and Kandyse McClure. The cast also includes Teryl Rothery, Nicola Cavendish, Gwynyth Walsh, Christina Jastrzembska, Stacey Farber, Jenny Cooper, Lucia Walters, Steve Bacic, Libby Osler, Keith MacKechnie, Barbara Pollard, Trevor Lerner, Ellie Harvie, Darcy Laurie, Sandy Robson, Lexa Doig, Chase Petriw, Emma Oliver, Michelle Addison, Miranda Edwards, and Gabrielle Jacinto.

The Netflix series is based on the books by Robyn Carr and was developed by Sue Tenney. Executive producers include Patrick Sean Smith, Tenney, Amy Palmer Robertson, Roma Roth, Christopher E. Perry, and Carr.
