McDonald’s location slammed over ‘outrageous pricing’ for Egg McMuffin

A McDonald’s outpost in Connecticut is being slammed for its “outrageous pricing” after a customer was charged more than $7 for an Egg McMuffin — and nearly $6 for a side of hashrowns.

“$7.29 for one McDonald’s Egg McMuffin. What has the world come to??” New York-based Bespoke Investment Group wrote on X of the breakfast sandwich, also posting a photo of the stiff bill.

The receipt showed that on Saturday, the user spent $14.58 on two Egg McMuffins at a McDonald’s in Fairfield, Conn., located at a rest stop off Interstate 95.

“These were 2 for $2 pretty recently,” the Bespoke account added in the X post, though the popular fast-food chain did away with that promotional offering in 2016.

In a subsequent post, the Bespoke account noted that a single side of hashbrowns — a famously slim-pressed oval of fried potatoes that fits into a small paper sheath — is priced at a staggering $5.69.

McDonald’s has since unveiled a three-tiered value menu — the $1 $2 $3 Dollar Menu — which includes items like a sausage biscuit, sausage McMuffin and McChicken sandwich.

An X user shared a photo of a receipt from a McDonald’s location in Fairfield, Conn., bashing the outpost for charging more than $7 each for an Egg McMuffin and bacon, egg and cheese McGriddle. Twitter

Meanwhile, an Egg McMuffin meal at the Connecticut McDonald’s location in question, costs an eye-popping $17.63 for a small coffee, Egg McMuffin and hashbrowns, according to the outpost’s Uber Eats page.

Upgrades and add-ons like a larger-sized coffee, bacon strips and a “round egg” — which is what McDonald’s calls a fresh-cracked egg, rather than its scrambled liquid eggs — are also available for up to an additional $3.

Per the receipt shared by the Bespoke X account, the user also purchased a bacon, egg and cheese McGriddle for $7.19, which is sandwiched between two maple-flavored pancakes embossed with the Golden Arches.

The Post has sought comment from the restaurant’s franchisee, Michell Enterprises, as well as McDonald’s corporate offices.

The bill, which has been viewed nearly 2 million times since it was posted over the weekend, outraged onlookers, who said that whoever determined the inflated prices was “probably [in the] same crew that prices the airport food options.”

“Avoid it!” another user warned, while a third chimed in that even an Egg McMuffin in Wisconsin fell victim to “Bidenflation,” and costs $3.99.

Others bashed the user behind Bespoke for making a series of “rookie mistakes” that resulted in the sticker shock. “Never buy from a rest stop,” one commenter by the name of Arb Cowboy warned, advising Bespoke to “get the McDonald’s app,” where there’s often buy-one-get-one-free deals.

Or, just go to the Chick-Fil-A that’s located in the same rest stop, Arb Cowboy suggested.

McDonald’s business model allows franchisees to set their own prices, according to the company website.

At another rest stop in the affluent Darien, Conn. — located less than 20 miles from the Fairfield-based rest stop — social media users also gawked at McDonald’s menu prices after an X user shared that a Big Mac combo meal costs $18.

The Darien McDonald’s — located in a town where the median income is $250,000, according to census data — also charges $19 for a Quarter Pounder with Cheese and Bacon meal or a Quarter Pounder Deluxe, both of which include medium fries and a medium soft drink.

Other eye-popping prices on the menu include an $18 McCrispy sandwich, a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets for $18.29 and a $16.59 Filet-O-Fish sandwich.

And a cheeseburger, usually found on McDonald’s $1 menu, runs for $17 for two at the restaurant.
