How To Learn Crucio In Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy allows you to make choices for being good or evil, including learning the powerful curse Crucio. The Cruciatus curse, Crucio, also known as the Torture curse, is one of the three unforgivable curses along with Avada Kedavra and the Imperious curse. All three unforgivable curses are forbidden in Hogwarts Legacy, and using one, such as Crucio, impacts your reputation in the game among other characters. It can also impact cutscenes, including the dialogue throughout a playthrough.

Throughout your time in Hogwarts Legacy, there are many opportunities to complete side quests in addition to the main story. These offer opportunities to level up, learn new spells, and discover everything on offer across the fantastic replication of the Wizarding World. All three unforgivable curses, including Crucio, can be unlocked through side missions for Slytherin student Sebastian Swallow. Unfortunately, all three can be missed if you make the wrong choices. Each curse has a specific side mission that needs to be completed. In each one, you will get asked by Sebastian if you want to learn the curse; if students select no, there are no further opportunities to learn the spell again in the game.

How To Unlock Crucio in Hogwarts Legacy

The quest to learn Crucio, “In the Shadow of the Study,” will appear for you after completing the main mission ‘The High Keep.’ To access the quest and learn Crucio, you must be at least level 16. You can earn experience to level up by completing quests and challenges found across Hogwarts or by collecting Field Guide pages.

Sebastian is one of a host of new characters in Hogwarts Legacy. You can learn Crucio at a relatively early stage of Hogwarts Legacy, and it is the first unforgivable curse available in the game.

If the side mission still isn’t appearing, you should regularly check for possible owl posts from Sebastian to ensure the quest pops up.

Once the quest to learn Crucio is available, you will need to enter a secret location called Slytherin’s Scriptorium. First, Sebastian will ask you to enter the secret chamber with his friend Ominis Gaunt. Once inside, you will have to solve a series of puzzles to a door with the word ‘Crucio’ inscribed on the floor. Once you reach this door, Sebastian will offer to teach you the Crucio curse. If you want to know the exact solutions to the puzzle in the Scriptorium, this video by Kibbles Gaming shows the solution:

You can choose to either cast it on you or on Sebastian. You can pick either of the choices to learn Crucio from Sebastian.

If you choose not to learn the spell, there will be another chance later in the story; however, it is recommended to learn it now so that you can use it against formidable foes in Hogwarts Legacy later on. Once learned, Crucio can cause damage over time to enemies. In particular, it is useful against some of the stronger enemies you will encounter during a playthrough. While some will avoid using the three forbidden curses, those that do will find some of the strongest spells available in Hogwarts Legacy.
