Stranger Things’ Lucas Actor Thinks There Could Be An Upside To Season 5’s Delay

Lucas Sinclair actor Caleb McLaughlin believes there could be an upside to Stranger Things season 5’s delay. The final season of Netflix’s popular ’80s-set science-fiction horror series was set to begin filming in May. Unfortunately, Stranger Things has been put on hold indefinitely due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers (AMPTP).

Speaking with BET, McLaughlin shares his thoughts on Stranger Things season 5‘s delay, believing there could be an upside to the situation. The actor expresses his complete support for the WGA and their cause, but admits that the delay may allow the writers time to conjure up new ideas for the final season. Read what McLaughlin says below:

I support the writers for sure – they are very important because any script for a film or series is being written and to build up a great story, you need writers. I support them 100% and I will now have the time to create my own stuff and work on music. Regarding the fans having to wait a bit for the final season, I will say things happen for a reason. Maybe this will give us time to brainstorm different ideas for the new season or maybe introduce a new character – at this time, I’m just waiting on the word for us to hop back into filming.

What To Expect For Stranger Things Season 5

Despite Stranger Things season 4 concluding with the Hawkins heroes successfully taking down Vecna in an elaborate plan, their celebration was cut short by Max’s brief death leading to the Upside Down tearing into the real world. With Max left in a coma, Hawkins fractured by inter-dimensional rifts, and Vecna still lurking in the Upside Down, Stranger Things season 5 will begin with the teenagers at their lowest. However, with Eleven regaining the use of her powers and the friends finally reunited in Hawkins, all is not completely lost for the group.

Star Finn Wolfhard has said that Stranger Things season 5 answers many questions regarding the Upside Down and also called the conclusion a “graduation of sorts” for the cast and crew. A major character’s death has been repeatedly teased, leading to speculation regarding who from the friend group will finally see their demise. With Eleven’s battles with Vecna taking a major toll on her, coupled with her history with the original breach to the Upside Down, many believe the super-powered teen may sacrifice herself for the ones she grew to call her family.

However, the writers strike has significantly delayed the conclusion to the popular Netflix series. With the WGA recently doubling down on their commitment to their demands from the AMPTP, a Stranger Things release date remains indeterminable at this time. If the strike continues until the fall, audiences may have to wait for mid-to-late 2025 to see Eleven take on Vecna one last time.
