Ana de Armas Becomes Lara Croft In Thrilling & Gloomy Tomb Raider Show Art

Summary

  • Ana de Armas has proven herself as a versatile actor in various genres, including action movies like No Time To Die.
  • With her extensive filmography and action movie experience, de Armas could potentially excel as Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider franchise.
  • However, due to the cancellation of the previous Tomb Raider sequel and the upcoming reboot, it remains uncertain if de Armas will be cast as Lara Croft in the near future.

A new gloomy art imagines Cuban actor Ana de Armas as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. Based on a long-running video game series of the same name, the action-adventure movies follow a fierce young archaeologist named Lara Croft who must challenge herself as she embarks on a demanding journey to the island where her father, Lord Richard Croft, went missing. Academy Award winner Angelina Jolie played Lara Croft in the 2001 movie adaptation and reprised her role in a sequel released two years later. In 2018, Swedish actor Alicia Vikander portrayed the iconic character in Roar Uthaug’s reboot.

Recently, digital artist TheOGCukeman shared a thrilling poster of Tomb Raider starring de Armas on Reddit. Check it out below:

In the poster, de Armas takes a fierce stance under the pouring rain. She is wearing Lara Croft’s signature ensemble — tank top and shorts — while carrying her popular recurve bow and arrow.

Would Ana De Armas Make A Good Lara Croft?

Over the last few years, de Armas emerged as one of the most sought-after onscreen actors. While the actor initially kick-started her career starring in romantic dramas and coming-of-age comedies, she later took more challenging roles in various other genres that showcased her acting range. In 2017, she starred in Antonio Negret’s action-packed Overdrive where she proved that she can excel in exhilarating thrillers just as well as slow-paced dramas.

In 2021, Ana de Armas also appeared as Paloma, a CIA agent assisting Bond in No Time To Die, the twenty-fifth installment in the classic James Bond series. Here, she once again displays that she is more than capable of thriving in action flicks, delivering a memorable performance that showcases her incredible fighting sequences and five-star skills.

With her extensive filmography that cuts across various genres and, more importantly, action movies, de Armas has proven that she has the necessary chops to take on the iconic role of Lara Croft. Unfortunately, this casting for the Tomb Raider franchise might not happen, at least not anytime soon. Last year, Roar Uthaug’s Tomb Raider 2 was cancelled, while Amazon Studios plans to reboot the franchise with a new movie and a show developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. While the updates are still pending, the Tomb Raider movie franchise will seemingly have a third go-around with the character, and de Armas could be a popular contender for the role.
