3 Christopher Nolan Movies Have A Rare Letterboxd Record (That Only 3 Other Films Have Achieved)

Summary

  • Christopher Nolan has achieved a remarkable level of popularity and acclaim among Letterboxd users, with three of his films joining the Three Million Watched Club.
  • While some of Nolan’s other films are not far from hitting three million views, Oppenheimer is quickly rising and could become his fourth film to achieve this milestone.
  • Other movies like Parasite and Fight Club have already reached three million viewers on Letterboxd, and films like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Pulp Fiction are close behind.

3 movies directed by Christopher Nolan have broken a rare Letterboxd record that only 3 other films have achieved. During his tenure as a director, Christopher Nolan has achieved several feats and surpassed many milestones in Hollywood. For instance, he currently ranks seventh among the highest-grossing directors of all time, with his films having a massive collective box office of over $6 billion.

Oppenheimer has also shattered several box office records by becoming not only the highest-grossing film in the biographical film genre but also in the World War II subgenre. Considering how Oppenheimer is already dominating the 2024 Oscars with 13 nominations, the director will have several other accolades under his belt in the near future. However, other than these records and rewards, Nolan’s movies have also found their place on a Letterboxd list that only includes six movies to date.

Inception, Interstellar, & The Dark Knight Are A Part Of Letterboxd’s Three Million Watched Club

To date, only six movies have achieved the rare feat of being watched by at least 3 million Letterboxd members. Out of the six films that have made it to Letterboxd’s three-million club, three were directed by Christopher Nolan: Interstellar, Inception, and The Dark Knight. Considering how there are three other films on the list, but none of them share the same directors, Christopher Nolan has clearly achieved a remarkable level of popularity and acclaim among Letterboxd’s users. Even outside the Letterboxd community, Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, Inception, and The Dark Knight are no less popular.

Although other Christopher Nolan films have not yet made it to the list, some of them are not too far from hitting three million. For instance, while Tenet, Memento, The Prestige, and Dunkirk have already passed one million, Oppenheimer has almost hit the two million mark after being watched by 1.9 million users. The Dark Knight Rises, too, is nearing the two million mark after landing on the watched list of close to 1.8 million Letterboxd members. While most other Christopher Nolan films might still take time to hit three million, Oppenheimer is quickly rising in the ranks, and it won’t be long before it will become the fourth Nolan film to join the three million club.

Which Other Movies Have Three Million Viewers On Letterboxd

Park So-dam as Ki-jung in Parasite

Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite was the first film to reach three million viewers on Letterboxd, and it maintains its rank as the most-watched film among the platform’s members. Joker ranks second but will soon get a boost in views after Joker: Folie à Deux’s release, which could potentially help it surpass Parasite. David Fincher’s Fight Club is another flick that has been in three-million club for quite some time.

Fight Club‘s ranking is not surprising, given its cult following and the timelessness of its quotes and themes. Films like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Pulp Fiction, Get Out, and Knives Out are already in the 2.9 million range. Considering how they are still growing in popularity and amassing new viewers each day, they, too, will likely find their place in the three million club with the three Christopher Nolan films.

Inception

Christopher Nolan’s 2010 Sci-fi action film Inception follows a thief who enters the dreams of others to steal information and, after being caught, is given a chance to clean his slate by performing an untested concept – implanting an idea within another mind. An ensemble cast is brought together by former target Saito, who seeks to implant the idea of destroying his own company into his father’s mind. In a complex labyrinth of dreams and untested theories at the forefront, survival is not guaranteed in this psychological heist where the stakes are high, and nothing is what it seems.
