Michael Keaton Heaps Praise On His New Beetlejuice Costar

Michael Keaton’s return as Beetlejuice was a surprise to many, as after years of failed attempts to get a sequel to the 1988 movie off the ground, it looked like the time for such a thing had passed. However, Keaton will this year be back as the ghost with the most, and he has been sharing his praise for one of his new costars; Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega.

Although Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will see Keaton reunited with the original film’s stars Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara, the Batman actor has nothing but good things to say about the 21-year-old franchise newcomer. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of his new movie Knox Goes Away, Keaton said of Ortega:

Of course, Ortega’s rise to stardom has been swift and almost flawless, so it is not surprising for the young actress to gain such praise from an industry veteran like Keaton. As well as her turn as the Addams Family daughter in Netflix’s runaway hit series Wednesday, Ortega has made herself a name as a modern “scream queen” with roles in the horror movies X and two Scream movies, and most recently appeared in the erotic thriller Miller’s Girl with Martin Freeman. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will see her playing the daughter of Ryder’s Lydia Deetz.

Beetlejuice 2 Is “Beautiful” According to Michael Keaton

Coming over 35 years after the original movie, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice falls right in the current trend of legacy sequels that has seen successful returns for the likes of the Ghostbusters and Top Gun franchises. This means that there is a lot of expectation on the movie to deliver a story worthy of the original film, and for Keaton it seems that it ticks all the boxes. Speaking recently on Sirius XM’s The Jess Cagle Show, Keaton said:

“It is really good. And beautiful. Beautiful, you know, physically. You know what I mean? The other one was so fun and exciting visually. It’s all that, but really kind of beautiful and interestingly emotional here and there. I wasn’t ready for that, you know. Yeah, it’s great. It’s great and the cast, I mean, Catherine [O’Hara], if you thought she was funny last time, double it. She’s so funny and Justin Theroux is like, I mean, come on.”

Whether it will be as successful for audiences is something that we will discover later in the year when the film finally debuts in cinemas.
